Cathy K. Morey, LMHC, LPC

With over 25 years experience working around the world, I am passionate about RELATIONAL counseling. I love to assist clients with finding the barriers to having healthy relationships with others and with themselves, while uncovering their true potential.

In a few sentences, tell clients who you are and why you do what you do?

I have been a licensed mental health therapist for 25 years. My love of working with hurting people began in my childhood growing up overseas in Colombia. I and my husband also lived and served overseas for many years, in disaster relief around the world and community development in Honduras. I have been an integral part of starting 9 businesses, 5 from the ground up, including children’s homes, drop-in centers for the homeless, and a long- term facility for survivors of sex trafficking. But my passion is for people who are survivors of violent crimes, severe trauma, or barriers that keep people from being all they were meant to be. My experience with both the business world and the counseling world makes me sensitive to each person’s difficult walk in life. I feel it is a privilege when invited to be a part of anyone’s journey.

What is your philosophy of counseling?

HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS! That is the key!! With 25 years of experience, much research, studying, and face-to-face experience living and working worldwide, I realized that healthy or toxic “relationships” can make or break our contentment in life! I believe your wounds have a direct effect on your current relationship with yourself and with others. But there are skills to learn to help us learn from the past so we can move forward with the present. These are skills such as self-awareness, ability to pay attention to the world around us & our own bodies (mindfulness), learning to grieve & let go while embracing change, learning the characteristics of a healthy relationship with others & with ourselves, and accessing our strengths while focusing on the beauty in life that can lead to JOY. I’d love to walk with you through this process to restore hope.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

Since I grew up overseas and worked in many cultures, I am passionate about working with every culture, gender, race, and identity. I am always learning something from each person I encounter. I admire your courage to take the first step to ask for help and be open to change. I want to hear your story.

My 25 years of multicultural experience have equipped me to work with such specialties as crisis intervention, anxiety, grief, depression, narcissism, couples relationships (including affairs, trust restoration, forgiveness, etc.), addictions (including prescription drugs/pain medication, pornography, etc.), sexual, emotional and physical abuse, toxic shame, PTSD (including sex trafficking and survivors of violent crimes), military families, blended families, grief & loss, eating disorders, self-harm, DID, OCD, life transitions,
and bipolar disorder.

What are some techniques and tools you like to use?

I always tailor the type of therapy to your needs. As both a secular and Christian trained therapist, I am honored to be able to engage with my clients holistically…mind, body, and spirit. However, I respect your beliefs, having grown up overseas and been exposed to hundreds of different cultures and religions my whole life. It is always my goal to make you feel safe in the therapy room.

Some of my range of holistic counseling modalities include TF-CBT, EMDR, REBT, ACT, Gestalt and Adlerian methods, Psychodynamic Therapy, Inner Child work, Expressive Arts, Listening prayer & Immanuel approach to spiritual healing, and Gottman Couples techniques with Solution-Based outcomes. We may agree to involve other professionals as well who are willing to support your goals. As long as you are open to examining new options, I will never give up!

What do you like to do outside of your practice?

I still love to travel to experience new places and meet new people. When at home, I enjoy doing most anything outside with my husband and 2 dogs and cat, but I love to play in the dirt, growing veggies and flowers. I volunteer in several places with my church and help train other therapists to serve hurting people through workshops and individual supervision. I also assist companies to be more aware of mental health issues in the workplace and help create joyful work environments.
