In a few sentences, tell clients who you are and why you do what you do?
I have been a licensed mental health therapist for 25 years. My love of working with hurting people began in my childhood growing up overseas in Colombia. I and my husband also lived and served overseas for many years, in disaster relief around the world and community development in Honduras. I have been an integral part of starting 9 businesses, 5 from the ground up, including children’s homes, drop-in centers for the homeless, and a long- term facility for survivors of sex trafficking. But my passion is for people who are survivors of violent crimes, severe trauma, or barriers that keep people from being all they were meant to be. My experience with both the business world and the counseling world makes me sensitive to each person’s difficult walk in life. I feel it is a privilege when invited to be a part of anyone’s journey.
What is your philosophy of counseling?
HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS! That is the key!! With 25 years of experience, much research, studying, and face-to-face experience living and working worldwide, I realized that healthy or toxic “relationships” can make or break our contentment in life! I believe your wounds have a direct effect on your current relationship with yourself and with others. But there are skills to learn to help us learn from the past so we can move forward with the present. These are skills such as self-awareness, ability to pay attention to the world around us & our own bodies (mindfulness), learning to grieve & let go while embracing change, learning the characteristics of a healthy relationship with others & with ourselves, and accessing our strengths while focusing on the beauty in life that can lead to JOY. I’d love to walk with you through this process to restore hope.
Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.
Since I grew up overseas and worked in many cultures, I am passionate about working with every culture, gender, race, and identity. I am always learning something from each person I encounter. I admire your courage to take the first step to ask for help and be open to change. I want to hear your story.
My 25 years of multicultural experience have equipped me to work with such specialties as crisis intervention, anxiety, grief, depression, narcissism, couples relationships (including affairs, trust restoration, forgiveness, etc.), addictions (including prescription drugs/pain medication, pornography, etc.), sexual, emotional and physical abuse, toxic shame, PTSD (including sex trafficking and survivors of violent crimes), military families, blended families, grief & loss, eating disorders, self-harm, DID, OCD, life transitions,
and bipolar disorder.
What are some techniques and tools you like to use?
I always tailor the type of therapy to your needs. As both a secular and Christian trained therapist, I am honored to be able to engage with my clients holistically…mind, body, and spirit. However, I respect your beliefs, having grown up overseas and been exposed to hundreds of different cultures and religions my whole life. It is always my goal to make you feel safe in the therapy room.
Some of my range of holistic counseling modalities include TF-CBT, EMDR, REBT, ACT, Gestalt and Adlerian methods, Psychodynamic Therapy, Inner Child work, Expressive Arts, Listening prayer & Immanuel approach to spiritual healing, and Gottman Couples techniques with Solution-Based outcomes. We may agree to involve other professionals as well who are willing to support your goals. As long as you are open to examining new options, I will never give up!
What do you like to do outside of your practice?
I still love to travel to experience new places and meet new people. When at home, I enjoy doing most anything outside with my husband and 2 dogs and cat, but I love to play in the dirt, growing veggies and flowers. I volunteer in several places with my church and help train other therapists to serve hurting people through workshops and individual supervision. I also assist companies to be more aware of mental health issues in the workplace and help create joyful work environments.
FAQ
Is therapy right for me?
The brain is a big, complex organ – the most intricately designed in the human body, more complex than any computer yet behaving in similar ways. It is capable of thousands of processes per second and making arbitrary and unpredictable connections with split-second decisions. Every new experience, every touch, every new thought creates a novel mental connection. This process of creating new connections is the most efficient, quick, and intense in childhood. Therefore, childhood experiences have an incredible impact on one’s personality.
According to an article published in Scientific American, changing one’s mind involves complex coordination between multiple structures within the brain. This complicated process makes it difficult to take a leap towards change.
Necessary to everyday function – to get out of bed, brush your teeth, go to work, talking to friends – is how we process. Every social interaction, every bad fight, every pleasurable experience, they are all a part of the tapestry of our personalities. Athletes use habit to train themselves to push further and further, students are training in their chosen field, and you are training your brain. All these experiences can carry with them a lingering effect that we may be unable to understand on our own. A licensed therapist can be an objective way to help decipher our complex experiences and guide us in strategies to deepen self-awareness and personal acceptance.
If moving forward with one or many areas of our life seems impossible, let me help you see through the fog and restore hope for the future.
What can clients expect to happen in their first session with you?
Your first session is a time to get to know each other and discover what you would like to change in your life….what brings you to therapy at this time in your life? This session is to see if we are a good fit. We will go as fast or slow as you like, since you dictate the pace. At the end of the first session, I will ask you if you feel this is a good fit and you would like to begin with weekly sessions. We will set goals together so we are on the same page moving forward. In subsequent sessions, I will always have a topic to discuss, however, your desire to address any pressing topic always takes precedence. You are in control
I strive to create a comfortable environment where you feel safe to be your true self. I’m here as a trusted partner you can confide in, but also as someone who will challenge you to help you grow. We may decide on helpful homework assignments between sessions to assist with practicing some new skills in your day-to-day life. While everyone is unique, I’ve found that clients typically start to make measurable progress after the first sessions but weekly sessions give you the best chance for success. Meeting regularly allows us to build a strong connection quickly, adjust the approach if/when needed, and see progress unfold week after week.
Your time is valuable. A clinical hour lasts 53 minutes. This allows me time to document progress, plan your treatment, and prepare for each session—ensuring that every appointment is focused on moving you forward.
My goal is to make sure every client has the tools they need to navigate their world and no longer need regular therapy.
Will we have to bring up old trauma? What if I'm not ready for that?
Many people fear that if they bring up the past, all the same old triggers will surface. The reality is that you are not the same person you were even 1 year ago. Together, we will learn and practice new coping skills to handle any lingering triggers, reducing their power to blindside us. In reality, we will start therapy with the present, but we may need to look at the past to better understand where the wounds started and what inaccurate core beliefs have come out of those events.
But you are not alone. We will walk this journey together while you determine the pace.
I don't talk much. Will that be a problem?
This is not a problem. As an experienced therapist, I am able to guide you along the path as you make new discoveries about yourself, giving you more confidence to keep moving forward.
What is the difference between "in-person" and "video call" sessions?
You will have a chance to decide if you would like to meet face to face, in my office (15151 S. Hywy 441, Suite #100, Summerfield, Florida 34491) or via video calling on your computer or phone. The quality of therapy will not vary. When you schedule your session, you will be asked to choose which you prefer, however, that can be changed from session to session as we plan for next sessions.
How is Biblical counseling different from other types of counseling?
Biblical counseling differs from other forms of counseling in its foundation, purpose, and approach. While it may incorporate some of the same techniques used in traditional counseling—like CBT, EMDR, or DBT—its framework is entirely rooted in Scripture and guided by a deep reliance on God’s Word and the work of the Holy Spirit.
Rather than simply addressing symptoms or helping someone become a “better version” of themselves, Biblical counseling seeks heart-level transformation by restoring individuals to right relationship with God through Jesus Christ. The goal is not self-improvement or personal empowerment, but spiritual growth—being conformed to the image of Christ.
Where secular counseling often centers the process around the client or the therapist, Biblical counseling centers everything around Jesus. It acknowledges God as Creator, embraces His authority and truth, and leans on His wisdom to bring healing, direction, and hope. It also addresses the spiritual dimension of our struggles, reorienting disordered desires, beliefs, and behaviors toward God’s design so that we can experience lasting change, peace, and wholeness.
Ultimately, Biblical counseling is about returning to the Lord, healing through His truth, and learning to love God and others well, all while being gently led by the Holy Spirit.

How do I book an appointment?
Scheduling an appointment is easy. Simply click on the SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT box on our homepage or click here and answer the questions along the way. Fees and availability of sessions can be seen there.
Do they take insurance? Do they work on a sliding scale?
I do take many insurances and can provide you a “Super Bill” for your insurance company if you choose to pay cash/Credit Card. I do work on a sliding scale if needed, as I don’t want money to be the reason you cannot seek help. We can discuss this further in the first session.
How do I cancel or change an appointment that I already made?
Once you are signed up, you will be assigned a portal where you can make any changes or message me.
To protect your time and mine:
- Rescheduling: You may reschedule with 48 hours’ notice or more, or you will be charged a fee of $100.
- Late Cancellations: Appointments changed with less than 48 hours’ notice will be charged a $100 fee.
This structure allows me to provide high-quality, reliable care to every client.
What if it's not a good fit and I don't like the therapist?
It is my goal to listen to you and serve you to the best of my ability as a trained therapist. However, I also understand that sometimes, there is a personality difference that just doesn’t fit. I do not take this personally and will work hard to find a therapist who might better serve your needs. I’m not an expert in everything. I am always prepared to refer you to several other therapists whom I trust and respect. I hope you will be open and honest with me to communicate your needs all along the way in our journey together.
